Who?

Friends and colleagues, old and new — everyone is invited. Please join for as little or as long as you can for our “Night Before CHI”!

Where?

We will be on our traditional GeordieCHI ramble as we spill into the streets of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter on our “cultural appreciation tour” of nearby late-night venues.

Starting from 7:15pm at Ocaña at Plaça Reial square, before moving on to other places around the Gothic Quarter.

Directions to the first venue

The first venue, 📍 Ocaña, is in the Plaça Reial square, adjacent to La Rambla — a popular street with tourists.

The nearest Metro stop is Liceu on the L3 line — from there, walk South down La Rambla, and take the third left down Carrer de Colom (4 minutes).

Metro — From the CHI Venue:

  1. Exit the venue on the Northeastern edge (Entrance 'A') to Plaça Leonardo da Vinci.
  2. Head Northwest on Rambla de Prim, crossing two roads (4 minutes).
  3. Enter the steps of El Maresme / Fòrum Metro station on your left (not the nearby El Maresme or Fòrum tram stops).
  4. Take the L4 Metro in a Southwest direction (heading towards Trinitat Nova) for 7 stops (~12 minutes).
  5. Alight at Jaume I, and continue with the walking instructions.

Walking — from the Jaume I Metro stop (L4 line):

  1. Stroll down the Carrer de Jaume I promenade and directly cross Plaça de Sant Jaume square (3 minutes). (If you have time, explore the pretty Carrer del Bisbe from the square, and Barcelona Cathedral beyond).
  2. Continue on down Carrer de Ferran for 4 minutes.
  3. Just before the end of the street, take the last left turn down Passatge Madoz.
  4. Cross over Plaça Reial square.
  5. Arrive at the first venue directly ahead: Ocaña.

Which?

The plan for the evening's venues — there is also a 📍 Google Maps List:

1️⃣
Ocaña
Go

See: directions to the first venue, above.

Ocaña is a beautiful venue in the elegant Plaça Reial (Royal Square). Spot the Gaudi-designed lampposts in the square!

2️⃣
El Bosc de Les Fades

Leave the square southwest down Carrer de Colum and turn left down the famous La Rambla. After a few minutes, turn left up Passatge de la Banca towards the Wax Museum.

El Bosc de Les Fades is an unusual, fantastical wonderland!

3️⃣
Bar Manchester

At the end of La Rambla, turn up Carrer de Josep Anselm Clavé for five minutes, left on Carrer d'Avingudainyó then right on Carrer de Milans.

Bar Manchester is popular with visitors, a bit of a dive bar with cheap drinks and 90s music.

Possible Alternative: It would be nice to visit the nearby Loro Bar or Bar Mariatchi, but both would likely be too small for everyone!

4️⃣
Craft Barcelona

Exit left and left again onto Carrer d'Ataülf then, at the end, slight right and keep left onto Carrer de la Ciutat and over Plaça de Sant Jaume to Carrer del Paradis.

Craft Barcelona is in a vaulted cellar, and has fantastic live music on.

5️⃣
Sub Rosa

Back to the square and down Carrer de Ferran for a couple of minutes, taking the left down Carrer d'en Rauric.

Sub Rosa is a fantastic, atmospheric cocktail bar.
